Phase 4, Working with the Body Core, with Instructor Karen Sonter in Townsville
This foundation class covers the history, philosophy and concepts of Ortho-Bionomy and provides an overview and practice of the basic Ortho-Bionomy release techniques and anatomy for each major joint in the body core. New students can begin to effectively apply Ortho-Bionomy methods after this class.
It is the perfect place to begin your Ortho-Bionomy learning journey.
Returning students will have the opportunity to more deeply explore expanded ways of interacting with the joints in the trunk of the body. We will explore releases for the psoas, the shoulders, the ilium and the joints from C1 through to the sacrum.
We will also additionally learn some postural support and self-care techniques to support long-term change.
My aim is to offer insight into the basic Ortho-Bionomy techniques, and how we can weave them with empowering postural support and client self-care techniques, which make change enduring.
How does Ortho-Bionomy work?
Ortho-Bionomy differs from many forms of body work in that it doesn’t use pain to treat pain, or use forceful work to oppose what is structurally occurring within the body. We work supportively with the patterns currently at play within the body, informing the nervous system about the structure and its patterns. Information given this way creates a follow-on effect through the body's natural self-correcting reflexes. This allows corrections to occur naturally and comfortably for clients.
What will I learn in a class?
Ortho-Bionomy Practitioners are trained to assess imbalances in the body that may cause pain or dysfunction. Then, using gentle but deliberate movement, practitioners assist and track the client’s body as it accesses the self-corrective capacity, to return to optimum health. Each class involves a combination of learning, demonstration, and hands-on practice.

Consultations with Karen
As part of your tutorials, in the Practitioner Training program, a Consultation is one-to-one time that you arrange to spend with a Registered Instructor or Associate Instructor to discuss your own questions and concerns about any aspect of Ortho-Bionomy. Not all of the private discussions need to be with your advisor. This time spent discussing your training, or expanding your understanding of ways you work in your clinic, can really support and compliment what you learn in classes. See More |
